Student Development Program is an Educational Initiative from Lodge Pandyan No 49 with a vision to make tangible impact on the society by providing the Light of Education to the deserving and needy. This is executed as a sustainable ongoing program to be held through the academic year and further.
The program focusses on self-development of the school children especially from the marginalized sections addressing their academic & skill challenges in order to ensure their educational & career advancement. Classes on Language Skills (Spoken & Written English), Soft Skills and Career Guidance were conducted by reputed and experienced professionals. Around twenty five students participated in the first batch. Teachers from the schools coordinated with us enabling a better & consistent participation of the students. Advanced teaching methodology aided by latest teaching technology like Audio-Visuals / PPT presentations along with a comforting environment facilitated a rapid grasping of the content.
Prof Anbunathan, Former Director, Dept of Business Administration, American College, Madurai, Prof Nedumaran, HoD, English Department, Christian College, Kodaikanal, Prof Daniel, English Department, American College, Madurai and Prof Rajagopalan, Former HoD, APSA College, Thiruppatur were the eminent faculty who conducted the sessions.
This program has been ably spearheaded by W Bro K Natarajan and Bro BaskarPerumal, with support from many other Brethren, namely, W Bro P Shivakumar, W Bro K Mahadevan and Bro SivaramKaliappan.
Bro BaskarPerumal donated English Grammar books to the first batch of the students on the concluding day. W Bro K Jagatheesan, ARGM participated on the concluding session and also had lunch with the young kids.
This initiative will be an ongoing program in coming years with three basic but vital areas for self-development – Language Skills, Psychology (Self Confidence, Attitude, etc) & Soft Skills. In addition, Career Guidance, Competitive Exam Trainings & other similar sessions will also be conducted.
A long journey ahead but with a well-defined destination.
As part of the ongoing STUDENT DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM an educational initiative from Lodge Pandyan No 49 training for National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) meant for admissions to medical courses for the current academic year was provided to 15 deserving students of the marginalised sections.
The training session was outsourced to a reputed training institute based in Madurai. The best part was the training classes were conducted in Tamil. The total cost of the one month intensive training session was Rs.1.50 lacs. The Lodge contributed Rs 75000/- through generous donations of its brethren, while a matching grant of Rs 75000/- was received from the Regional Grand Lodge of Southern India.
Based on the outcome, it is proposed to evolve a more suitable methodology for the multiple competitive exams in the coming years. A long journey ahead but with a well-defined destination.
